Allan
discovered drums at the age of 12 by taking snare drum lessons in The 206th
Glasgow Company of The Boys Brigade.
The choice was simple for anyone with an interest in music. Bagpipes or drums? 'A no brainer' thought Allan. Growing
up he played drums in various rock, punk and new wave bands then one day his
father took me to hear the Buddy Rich Big Band in The Kelvin Hall
Glasgow. Since that day there
was only one type of music he wanted to play. And he's still trying! Allan has
studied drums with Tom Gordon (BBC Big Band), John Tayler (Footes Drum Store,
Soho and first call 'dep' to all the West End Musicals) and Tom Meadows (he's
now playing with Duffy) at DrumTec in London. Allan
cites influences as Buddy, Louie Bellson, Jeff Hamilton, Steve Smith, Steve
Gadd, Ari Hoenig, Brian Blade, Tony Williams, Jeff Porcaro & Frank
Tonto. They all inspire him. Allan's 'day job' is in the IT industry. His other
job in the band is to maintain this website! |
