A versatile multi-instrumentalist and composer, Gerry has written music for film, television and radio. His current work includes the choral music for the play Hephaistos, written by Chris Dolan.

 

In addition to his Big Band work, Gerry is also a musician with and board member of the Scottish Composers Jazz Ensemble and performs regularly with the Glasgow ImprovisorsŐ Orchestra and his own ensemble, the Jazz Collective. Over recent years he has worked/toured with George Lewis, Satoko Fuji, Lol Coxhill, Mike Outram and  Bruce Adams.

 

He is also a musician with and board member of the Scottish Composers Jazz Ensemble and performs regularly with a number os small and large bands including  his own ensemble, the Jazz Collective.

 

Gerry Rossi is the Course Director for the renowned BA Applied Music degree at the University of Strathclyde. His teaching portfolio includes composition, the music industry, entrepreneurship in the creative industries and music history.

 

Gerry is director of the Strathclyde Improvisation Ensemble, which features 25 musicians on the BA Applied Music Degree course. The ensemble includes musicians from all styles of musical backgrounds - traditional, classical, rock, pop, jazz and electronic. A number of guest musicians from North America and Europe have been featured on tours with the ensemble.

He is also Chair of the music charity Sounds of Progress. This is a company designing and delivering music workshops, training and education throughout Scotland and abroad.

Gerry is involved in collaborative teaching and research projects with a number of institutions, including the University of Dortmund and the Berklee School of Music in Boston, Mass., USA. This includes Music Therapy, approaches to music composition and a faculty teaching exchange programme.

A Committee Member with the Parliamentary Cross Party Music Group, Gerry is also Universities Representative, Music Policy Forum, Glasgow City Council.
